Wow, thanks for the insight. That actually makes sense except for problems with the switched white on the single pole. Testing the voltage with a non contact tester shows that the mains power to the single pole switch is coming in from top furthest right 14/3, switching the center-top 14/3 for the light outside. So the white that is capped with the 2 black (all of which where unmarked when I opened the box) is always hot, taking power from the light outside, not supplying it as you suggest. I marked it with tape, but I'm still not 100% sure where it is going.
