Nov 19, 2021 at 22:14 | comment | added | coppereyecat | Can confirm, I did some plumbing repairs in a house built in Michigan in the 1940s, many of the pipes I had to cut out were 3/4 inch pipes with a smaller than pencil size water channel left in the middle from all the corrosion (especially hot water pipes).
Nov 19, 2021 at 16:30 | comment | added | WoJ | @SteveSummit: not to mention that OP tried to do the very best thing: try to use a caption label. Replying that he should look for help (and not find anything because MD does not support captions) instead of readily helping is really not cool.
Nov 19, 2021 at 15:50 | comment | added | Steve Summit | I was really glad that Danieljamar35 added those pictures — they're awesome! — and I'm sad that his reward was to get scolded for not labeling them properly, and to have his intelligence questioned for not immediately grokking a syntax which, let's be honest, is coder-friendly but layman-hostile.

Add image description, fit alt text, clean up formatting

The syntax isn't particularly "arcane". There's help available right in the text edit box (look for the question mark ? it'll pop open the help box showing you how to manually type the proper syntax, or, for the most part, you can click the buttons at the top of the edit box). Also, one can be a programmer and a handyman (guilty!) so there's no reason to limit yourself.

Nov 18, 2021 at 16:42 | comment | added | jaskij | @Danieljamar35 the origin of this site is stackoverflow.com - originally meant for programmers. By "submitted an edit" I mean that I edited your answer, but you (or someone with a high enough reputation) must accept the edit before it becomes public. As for comments, they're generally considered fleeting and non-permanent - fit for discussing your answer but not for actually keeping the information (this should be edited into the answer itself if it's relevant).
Nov 18, 2021 at 16:14 | comment | added | Danieljamar35 | I have no clue what you just wrote, I am a handyman not a coder. However, this seems to be a very informative site, I hope I can learn its arcane system, to be able to contribute to it. I did figure out how to get past the 5 minute error: select all, copy, cancel, edit paste, save, and it works!
Nov 18, 2021 at 15:57 | comment | added | jaskij | @Danieljamar35 I just submitted an edit with the description. Looking at the source of your answer, what you thought was a description is the alt text for screen readers (it's not visible, screen readers read it out in place of the image). Looking at SE's Markdown reference there's no special syntax for image descriptions.

Nov 18, 2021 at 15:53 | comment | added | Danieljamar35 | Thank for pointing that out. I tried to label the images for 40 minutes, loading, reloading typing testing, I thought I had them labeled but apparently not, and I am just not capable of making it work on this site. The top rusty image is low ph acid water, and the bottom one is high ph calcium rich hard water. Now I get an error "comments may only be edited for 5 minutes" whatever that means, so this message may disappear also, who knows.
Nov 18, 2021 at 13:18 | comment | added | FreeMan | Also, the rules of Stack Exchange require that you list the source of the images, even if it's "own picture".
