How can I stop my washing machine drain from overflowing?
If the washer drains into a dry well, then the dry well is probably clogged with lint. You will have to dig it out or dig a new one. We had that problem at my son's house.

What could cause my washing machine to stop before the rinse cycle?
My daughter in law had the same problem and it was that her dry well was full of lint from years of use. We installed a sump to the town sewer line instead.
