My air handler in my attic won't drain water(because the hole is 1cm above the pan) until the water reaches that hole. Why is this setup this way. From what I have read, NO water should be in the bottom there. In fact the blower fan pulls that water and their is rust on the bottom of the coil.

Is there another hole that's plugged? Most systems have a primary drain, which is low and drains the water most of the time. They also have a secondary drain, which is higher up and is only used if the primary is clogged. Are both drains plumbed, or only one? – Tester101 Apr 15 '16 at 16:37
  • What's the make and model of the air handler? – Tester101 Apr 15 '16 at 16:37
  • Really about secondary? Ya there is a line of hole on the flat bottom that was not used. I have had 7 AC companies come out over the last 8 years... I have asked them about that and they said not an issue.. I have a mild musty smell in the house... my wife can't smell it, but I can and am always congested... – jdl Apr 15 '16 at 16:50

  • Just for fun, Google "standing water legionella". – Daniel Griscom Apr 16 '16 at 16:18
