My front door is on the side of the house that gets tremendous amounts of sunlight in the afternoon. I am in NJ where seasonal temperatures vary. Lately, any time there is sun, in the afternoons the front door creates a fairly loud popping noise. It is a single loud pop, occurring intermittently.

I am suspecting that it is the door expanding and contracting, and is there anything I can do about this? It is very annoying and sometimes wakes up my toddler from his nap because it is very loud.

The door itself is still opening and closing without any issues or sounds. Also this is the front door so there a rubber "gasket" all around, so when opened or closed, there is a woosh sound.

  • What is the construction of the door? Wood, metal, composite, etc.? – feetwet May 11 '15 at 20:49
