Ran 2 loads but did smell a burning smell initially. Tried using dryer again and now won’t run. Powers up but when I hit the start button I hear a clicking sound. Help…

This is the clicking part circled in red.

Red and black are normally interchangeable. White and green have specific screws, but either hot wire can go to either hot screw. Maybe you can add more detail as to what happened?

Need more information plus pictures. Usually red and black is hot wires and usually does not matter if black is right side or left side. If you cross them with white or ground it matters or connect them together is not good either.

  • Can be a defective dryer or you goofed. Show pictures of the connections.

Did you use a 4-wire or 3-wire connection? (The 3-wire may be trying to kill you, so turn the breaker off). Did you change the plug? Can we see pix of how it was connected? Oct 22 at 21:00
  • Most likely the timer is toast, maybe you can take it out and have it tested somewhere? Oct 23 at 2:02
