I'm looking to build a 36" wide outdoor bench for an outdoor changing room. My thought is to use PT pine for the slats.

The span is 36" and would be supported at both ends (by the 2x4 studs in the the wall).

My thought was to 2x2 PT balusters with one 2x4 at the front at a 1/2" spacing.

Given that spacing, Will this be strong enough?

I am considering something like this.enter image description here

If you can afford it, cedar or redwood for the top of the bench would make a nicer surface to sit on when changing clothes. The spacing is fine.
