I'm building a fence with cedar pickets, and I can get pickets made from two cedar species: incense cedar and western red cedar.

What I've read seems to suggest that western red cedar is more desirable, but it's not clear why.

The incense cedar is about 30% less expensive, and they both look nice to me.

What are the differences between them?

In particular, how does their durability compare?
