A few years ago I removed all the soft wood on a windowsill & rebuilt the sill with new wood and filler. I've just found out that it's rotten again.

1) Should I have treated the old wood prior to rebuilding the sill?

2) If so, what's the best product to minimize, both dry and wet rot?

Did you stop the moisture that caused the rot in the first place? If you don’t stop the cause it is hard to stop the rot even new wood put in will rot if it is wet all the time. Bare aluminum framed windows were really bad for this because they sweat and the moisture dribbled down to the sill. – Ed Beal Sep 18 at 13:55
