I'll be installing a condensing tankless water heater that has a condensate drain.

Can I discharge this line outside instead of into sewer?

  • I think you can discharge it outside if you want. I have heard that this condensate is acidic (from sulfur odorant compounds in the gas) and so it might kill plants close to where the drain hits the ground, but if necessary you could put a bed of crushed limestone or marble chips for it to drip on. – Jim Stewart May 11 at 21:51
