the handle(basically stem) came out in the middle of use. we shut off the water at the main valve and took apart the faucet. tried new washers and putting back together that didn't work. called a plumber ($600.00 charge) he said easy enough to do on our own just take the stem and get another one just like it for the cold and put both of those in and that should work. if you have to order the stem get caps and just cap it so you have water in the rest of the house. the caps don't fit, as it's a mobile home and we have replaced the 1 stem that was working and ordered another like it I have 1 stem that is the same diameter that I am using as a cap but the water will not turn off on the hot. I have flipped and used the stem that worked on the cold to the hot but it won't turn off and I have tried an old stem that was working as well that we are replacing. how can i get the hot water to turn off?

  • Hello, and welcome to Home Improvement. It's hard to tell what's going on here; could you add some pictures of the stem and where it fits? – Daniel Griscom Jan 17 at 14:55
