My basement bathroom window is 35" W x 17" from the inside measurement:

Now if I replace this old window, I have few questions:

  1. Do I shop some window that is 0.5" smaller on all edges? So like 34"x16"?

  2. I could not find anything that fits exactly so if I pick something much smaller, what to do with the gaps around?

For example:

  1. Is it possible to make the hole larger? I have not break the drywall to see what's inside. It could just be plywood layers or something...

Thanks.
