I have an exhaust fan, light fixture and wall outlet connected to a combination switch. The top switch turns on the lights and it works and the outlet is always on, but the bottom switch supposed to turn on the exhaust fan but instead it turns off all power from a room.

What do you guys recommend?

  • Is it in a bathroom? Did you recently install a GFCI receptacle? – Harper Dec 31 '18 at 7:39
  • No it was there already but someone came to replace the light switch and did the wiring wrong – Anthony Alvarez Dec 31 '18 at 8:33

Can you post photos of the inside of the switch box? – ThreePhaseEel Dec 31 '18 at 12:11
  • Sounds like some wires on the bottom switch are wrong like the hot got swapped with the return so when this switch is off the power is cut to the other 2, a photo of the wiring may help us be more exact but I would try swapping the wires to the bottom switch and see if this fixes the problem. – Ed Beal Dec 31 '18 at 16:54
