We have a Hampton bay ceiling fan, it's about 5 years old. Since we had it installed in our new house we have had issues. The first year it would be on low when we went to bed, during the night it would turn up to high and sometimes the light would turn on. We were going to replace it and then all the issues stopped so we didn't. Here lately the fan will be on and the light will turn on by itself or the fan will go to high. It also only works part of the time, sometimes the switch is on for an hour or more before the fan actually turns on. Today, the fan won't even come on now. I had the switch on all day and the fan never turned on, put new batteries in the remote, still nothing.

  • You may have another device emitting infrared signals that correspond to the fan's instruction set. Try covering its receiver window and see if the issues stop. – isherwood Feb 19 '18 at 15:51

We thought about that, I think a lot of neighbors have the same fan too, maybe that has something to do with it. But now the fan won't even run. – J James Feb 19 '18 at 16:06
  • As for why it won't come on now, I can't tell you. Check breakers, bathroom/kitchen GFCI's there might be on wired into the circuit. As for the remote interference I'll bet that is from the next door neighbors fan. It's probably an RF remote and they are both on the default code from the factory. – Tyson Feb 19 '18 at 16:51
  • It's a pain, but another test would be to remove the remote system and use the pull chains. This will determine if it's your remote system or the fan itself. – Jeff Cates Feb 20 '18 at 5:12
