I bought new Kohler dishwasher air gap. An air gap is required in California. It is used in conjunction with brand new dishwasher and garbage disposal. The problem is water keeps on spewing out of the air gap and never drains to the garbage disposal. I disassembled the air gap to inspect the innards. Something strange is the 5/8" small tube coming from the dishwasher shoots all the way up to the top of the air gap. It's ending right where the water was spewing out. I see no way for the water to discharge into the larger 7/8" side, which goes to the garbage disposal. Basically, there's no route from the 5/8" side to the 7/8" side. Is this air gap defective? Was the 5/8" tube pushed way to far up?
