We have a Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refrigerator that needs a replacement water filter for the ice cube maker but when re-ordered, what arrived (replacement regrigerator water filter #9913)...it is 1/2 size of the current one, which admittedly is long overdue for replacement. Do we need to have the line extended to make up the length difference ...or what? Please advise. PS there is no chilled water component, just ice cube maker.Thank you. JudyG The model number is 596.76252702. I honestly cannot figure out how to send you a photo...and not sure of what...the current filter, the new one, the location? The location is the cabinet next to refrig where the water line is located.

If the new filter is shorter than the old one you have two options.

1) Find a longer filter.

2) Extend the length of the feedwater line.

Usually, the feedwater line has enough slack left in it to make up for a shorter filter. Possibly in your basement ceiling if not behind the refrigerator.

However, whoever installed the original line could have cut the feedwater line to exactly what was needed and left you now needing a replacement line.

Good luck!

  • Ordered filters from Sears and have been send this shorter filter. Have discovered an extra loop of water line further into the cabinet. All is installed at the far rear of the deep cabinet behind the garbage disposal and hard to get to. Have decided to bite bullet, call plumber to move it all to front of cabinet for easier changing in the future. Thank you to all esp. ArchonOSX for advice. – user71529 Jul 2 '17 at 20:42
