Aug 30, 2016 at 17:22 comment added Eric Thanks for these additional tips. Do you think a structural screw (Spax, GRK, etc) could be used as a replacement for lag screws in this application?
Aug 30, 2016 at 16:43 comment added isherwood I agree, and would only add that suitable attachment to the wall framing is critical. Use 1/4" or 5/16" lag screws as will fit the bracket holes, and be sure they penetrate at least 2" into the framing. Pilot slightly smaller than the shank of the screw (inside thread diameter) to improve hold and prevent splitting.
