Aug 7, 2023 at 10:46 comment added Martin The bend on the fibre cable looks painful. I'd try to relieve it a bit
Aug 7, 2023 at 3:29 comment added Ecnerwal For "Living room 1" (and really, for all you might use) buy a Cat5e (or Cat6, or Cat6A, but 5e will do what you cable can, so only go higher if cost is the same or very minimally increased) wall jacks, cut off the plugs, and connect the wall jacks to the cable ends. While it could be damaged elsewhere, as answered, crimped plugs are notoriously unreliable on wall cables. So it's probably a bad plug connection. Or just put your NAS in a room with a cable that works.

Jul 31, 2023 at 20:46 comment added oxtay @keshlam you're absolutely correct. That was the first place I considered posting this. But I noticed most of the similar questions are posted here and no one really answers them in there.
Jul 31, 2023 at 20:45 comment added oxtay Thanks @Ecnerwal. I'll try that and keep you posted. You're right about the cable jacket, but since they are all either gray or blue, it's not easy to know which one is which.

Jul 31, 2023 at 18:24 comment added Ecnerwal Wait - you didn't take your laptop to the FAR END IN THE GARAGE? You plugged into one in the living room, and into the other in the living room? Arrgh. That leaves you open to multiple sources of failure. Take the laptop to the garage, check for signal coming out of the patch panel, (given it's unlabeled, look to verify which ports) and only then involve more parts that can fail.
Jul 31, 2023 at 18:20 comment added Ecnerwal Cable jacket color (and looking to see where it's connected on the back of the patch panel) should disambiguate which living room is which. The blue cable should be blue all the way...
Jul 31, 2023 at 18:13 comment added keshlam I'm undecided re whether this is a home improvement question or a networking question. It's really the latter, but I've found he networking stack doesn't want to talk to anyone but commercial users, even if the question is about pro-level equipment.
