Feb 6, 2022 at 20:41 comment added Harper - Reinstate Monica @EricDuminil Yes I did, edited. I will probably end up dealing with Kelvin-watt-hour when I'm arguing about heat pumps, though LOL. Gotta remember that lower case H though!

Feb 6, 2022 at 19:28 comment added Harper - Reinstate Monica @Rodney I see what you mean. Units fixed. When I initially searched for a metric unit that handles like the BTU (energy to heat 1 pound of water 1 degree F) what I found was calories. But you're right, joules or KWH is more malleable.

Feb 6, 2022 at 6:23 comment added manassehkatz-Moving 2 Codidact @Rodney Interesting. In the US each utility type has its own billing unit, sometimes more than one! In a system I develop, BTU is the universal value (i.e., convert everything to BTU for overall energy usage comparison).
Feb 6, 2022 at 5:51 comment added Rodney The metric unit of energy is the Joule not the calorie, and "calories per KWH" is not a unit it's a scale factor between two different unit systems, like "inches per light year" which would also be an "ungainly" number. In the UK energy from the utility companies is priced per KWH whether it is electrical or gas, a conversion factor is used to convert from the volume measured by the gas meter to the KWH value that goes into the bill.
