Jul 9, 2021 at 20:45 | comment | added | Adrien | My wire only says THHN. I got it brand new at Home Depot.
Jul 9, 2021 at 19:40 | comment | added | Jim Stewart | @Harper what is the actual risk from "jus' hopin' the war's rot" and usin' it as is?
Jul 9, 2021 at 19:17 | comment | added | Harper - Reinstate Monica | If you have to tighten the screw to make the 'backstab' hold @Adrien, then you have the preferred outlets for stranded wire. And all GFCI outlets are that way. Note that if all the outlets are GFCI, don't use the "Load" terminals - just put everything on "Line". "Load" is for when you want to extend GFCI protection to other locations.
Jul 9, 2021 at 19:14 | comment | added | Jim Stewart | Your wire is labeled THHN, but is it also labeled THWN? (Is there any wire sold without both?) Is there any way for the OP to test for joining solvent damage to the wire insulation without pulling the wire out?
Jul 9, 2021 at 17:34 | comment | added | Adrien | I also just realized that the outlets I got have the metal screw and clamp that you mentioned is sort of like a backstab. So I shouldn't have to change them out because that's what I did. I used Levitron Protection Weather-Resistant GFCI Outlets "GFWT1-KW. I'd provide a link here but it's too long to post in a short comment.

Jul 9, 2021 at 17:17 | comment | added | Adrien | I just checked the label on the pipe itself and saw that I used JM Eagle 1/2" S40 PVC conduit rated for 90 degrees Celsius. I don't know of any other PVC that is gray for plumbing or whatever else. I only know of white PVC and black ABS for plumbing. So that's why I said "gay" PVC" since I've only seen it in the electrical department and have seen it used for electrical only. My wire does say THHN. And thanks for the input on the backstabs. I did do the backstab but will change it out to have it done correctly.
Jul 9, 2021 at 3:30 | comment | added | manassehkatz-Moving 2 Codidact | The conduit body covers in the wrong places problem is much more likely - may have bought all the right stuff but that doesn't mean it was installed right.
Jul 9, 2021 at 3:29 | comment | added | Harper - Reinstate Monica | @manassehkatz Likely, but the markings will tell the tale. As long as OP bought everything from the electrical department and didn't face any conduit body covers into walls, it may be alright.
Jul 9, 2021 at 3:27 | comment | added | manassehkatz-Moving 2 Codidact | Gray PVC pipe is right out Actually, based on everything else, I highly suspect OP did get proper PVC conduit, just didn't identify it as such and stated "gray" to distinguish from the typical white PVC (which isn't conduit).
