A deadbolt installed as your door is already set up will LOOK like it helps even if it doesn't and might deter an attempt in the first place. Though, of course, it would not help very much if they actually tried. On the counter, a deadbolt also gives off the idea that there is something of value to be protected as well which can increase interest in break in. | |
