Because they used it inside the devices they might as well use the same screws in the lids. When they started using them some time back to stop people thought they were there to sopt them from easily getting in and tinkering with the electronics inside.

But as you experienced your self you got all these interchange bits in a standard screwdriver now a days for a few bucks.
