Aug 29, 2018 at 20:33 | comment | added | Nick Anderson | I'm installing 5" wide, 3/4" solid pre-finished hickory hardwood throughout my main floor, and my intent is to use the same 5" boards on my stairs capped at the end with a 3" wide, 3/4" thick stair nosing. I don't want to go with a veneer tread covering with bullnose as it won't match my hardwood (it's distressed with hammer marks and not easy to match). As for the painting the stairs and adding a carpet runner - the MDF that the stairs are made of is very porous, in bad shape, and has notches in it from the old railing as noted above. Filling and painting it isn't really a viable option. | |
