Feb 2, 2017 at 15:18 comment added Jim Stewart When you used the dehumidifier did you have more dry, cracked lips?
Feb 2, 2017 at 14:32 comment added Ed Beal Many years ago I had a sliding door that would condense moisture and freeze there was no air leaks that I could detect, there was even a heat register on the non sliding side of the door but it would still freeze up and it could not be opened. The door was in or at the end of a kitchen and after installing a dehumidifier the problem with icing disappeared. but it was a portable unit and it needed to be drained regularly or it made a mess on the floor. I later installed a door with insulation and that reduced the sweating but the dehumidifier did make a huge difference.
Feb 1, 2017 at 22:01 comment added isherwood It's easy to check the seal when it's dark inside and light outside.
Feb 1, 2017 at 22:01 comment added mmathis And 4cm of ice is a lot to have inside your house!
Feb 1, 2017 at 22:00 comment added mmathis @LoïcFaure-Lacroix If you're getting ice at the bottom but not the top, yet still feeling a good seal when closing, it's likely that the top is closed tightly but the bottom isn't, creating a draft. Bring a tissue or lit candle near the door frame (being careful not to light anything on fire!), see if you can't find a draft there.
Feb 1, 2017 at 21:49 comment added Loïc Faure-Lacroix @isherwood the minimum temperature we have here is around -30 so far. But ice starts appearing at -5/-10. Not sure how to measure humidity. But there is a problem... Windows in the new rooms we repaired are also pretty wet. But other rooms do not suffer from this problem with the old windows.
Feb 1, 2017 at 21:46 comment added Loïc Faure-Lacroix The seal is good, even when there is no ice, it's a bit difficult to close it. And I can't feel any leak. The bottom of the frame is frozen most ice is on the left and right bottom corners. The bottom doesn't get as much ice as the corners but does. The top is never frozen but ice can get pretty high when below -20.
Feb 1, 2017 at 21:34 comment added isherwood Also, do you have a good seal with the weatherstripping? When I do see severe frost it's because there's an air leak.
Feb 1, 2017 at 21:33 comment added isherwood How is the indoor humidity level? I live in a colder climate than you, and commercial buildings often have steel door frames, but there's rarely any frost buildup.
