No clue. I'm taking the wait-and-hope-the-house-doesnt-catch-fire approach at the moment. I've also made sure to secure excellent homeowner's insurance and smoke detectors. :-/

What would such a device look like? The previous owner was a do-it-yourselfer and messed of a lot of things in the house. I wouldn't put it past him to use something like that.

I've had the PetSafe SmartDoor for about 8 months for my Boxer. It works great unless you've got your dog crated right next to the door, like I do. It just keeps locking and unlocking. I also have two cats and they haven't made it through. With that size dog, you'd probably want the large one.
