How can I block off scorching sunlight from coming through my windows? Can you plant a tree in front of the window/room? This is obviously a long term solution... |

What tool should I use for carving deep shapes in a desk top? I would be a bit more precise on the router and suggest a plunge router. It allows to easily make cuts on a surface. Fixed routers are more useful for edge work. |

What is the most durable wood to use for an outdoor swing set Did you look for a local wood mill, lumber mill or anything similar? It's basically a place where they cut their own wood and sell it. It's probably the best place to look for wood supplies and guidance too. |

How to repair a small hardwood crack? @longneck I find it odd that it cracked there. Although, it didn't crack when someone was sitting on the edge. It cracked in the middle of the night. As you suggested, once fixed, I will probably sister it to help with the support. |

How to repair a small hardwood crack? The crack isn't straight enough to cut out without losing at least an inch, but it's a possibility. (I don't want a diagonal cut and I somewhat fear the weakness this joint might create. It's a bench for two after-all.) I definitively like the idea of adding pocket screws to help solidify if I re-glue it. As for the winter, since this is a new house, we did not humidify to help the house dry up. The bench/wood is fairly new too, less than a year old. |

Why do some table saws have a direct and a reverse ruler on the fence? @LuizBorges This is a long shot, but are there any laws in Brazil that forbids new tools to have inch rulers? |

Are butcher-block countertops appropriate for a very hot and humid climate? Some researches/people do say that cutting meat on wood is safer than plastic. For example, our sister site cooking SE, does say it's better than plastic. |

Why do some table saws have a direct and a reverse ruler on the fence? Did you try searching online for the brand and model? There could be a user guide or installation guide that states why. |

Which router would be more useful for kitchen cabinet work? @LuizBorges Did you check to see if there's more bits available with mm shanks than inches? Where I live, mm bits are really really rare, it could be different in Brazil. |

Which router would be more useful for kitchen cabinet work? @shirlockhomes On my routers, changing chucks takes about 30s to do, I don't see that as a drawback. My model with both shank cost a $10 extra; it is well worth it. As for 1/2" shank being more expensive, it varies a lot. I've seen 1/4" straight bits as expensive as 1/2" straight bits. Some bits are only available at 1/2". |

Which router would be more useful for kitchen cabinet work? +1 for the plunged router. I suggest to find a model that can take in 1/2" shank as well. I also couldn't find any 1/2" shanks in my local stores. As soon as I started shopping online, I found some that fitted my needs. I'm glad that my router can take both, I saved a couple bucks. |
