Yeah i probably don't need the diagram. I thought gaffa tape would be enough! My computer is not finding the pictures at the moment to upload them but I will try again when I get to a windows one so you can see. I have added some info to the question

I don't know what caulkin is. It is a plastic vent over a circular hole about a foot deep and 10 inch diameter leading out to the turret. No wonder I am cold though. I will take a photo. I don't want to cause any damage but i cannot understand why it is there in the first place.

I like the idea of filling the vent. It is tempting as it may well have a lot to do with the problem. The gap is about 10 inches in diameter. I am not sure whether filling this might get me into trouble with my landlady though. Something more temporary?

done already. Definitely coming right through the walls. It's the end of terrace and the wind just seems to get the wall. That said there are lots of other sources of the draft but it is worst on my wall (no window on that wall - just the vent) I will draw a diagram.

comment Activating chair's gas lift?
No but some people would. My last landlady hired not one, but two joiners to put together an ikea desk so I had one for when I moved in. I could not believe it and I also caught them them laughing about it as they came in. As it goes, people have different thresholds for what they view as a challenge! If I come on an ask a beginner programming or mathematics question should my post be closed? What defines a beginner anyway? I can plaster a wall but it took me a while to figure out the meaning behind the dodgy ikea arrows, in the end i just threw the instructions away and i have my chair now!
