comment Which steel is stronger: Cold rolled, hot rolled, or stainless?
All steel is 200 GPa Young's modulus. That's your elastic deformation. It's such a standard value that manufacturers don't publish it. Anyone who works with steel knows it.

comment I need a multiple-switch light switch which can't all be turned off at once
Is there one vent that you want to leave always open? Pull the switch out and hard wire it in the correct manner.

comment How does this axial-flow propeller pump work?
The mysterious black box has wire windings in it. When you feed it with current, an induced magnetic field is created. Since you're using alternating current, the field flips 60 times a second, and this forces the rotor to spin.

Then I don't think it really matters for your purposes -- even if security is an issue, as the door itself will be the weak point. Stainless might be worth the extra cost for appearances sake, but you'll be well within design parameters with any steel.

Those ranges exist because of the rolling process. Different sizes go through different strain hardening cycles. I might be able to help if you gave some details as to the use and loading. Choosing stock is application specific.

comment How can I attach stainless steel utensils to aluminium posts?
Solder won't work. Solder isn't for structural connections. You need a solid mechanical fit first.

comment Why don't people use rigid or spray foam insulation in attics?
I think it has to do with cost. Blown Cellulose is good enough, and significantly cheaper.

When all else fails, ask the Super for advise. He or she probably knows the building.

Just to be clear: @Mansfield is saying 6 ft above ground, and 3 ft below, for a 9 ft piece of timber.

You should probably talk about what a proper connection is.

comment Do shower water supply line covers need to be sealed or caulked?
If I had a tube of caulk open already, I'd run a bead around the inside, just to act as a glue to hold it up.

comment Why does my house carry sound so much?
Precisely what I was thinking. Also Fabric curtains on the windows. Glass is a very acoustically reflective surface.
