comment Is “bronze and silumin” mix actually possible in a ball cock?
This sounds more like a rant about a frustrating experience you had, and less like search for answers. Maybe tomorrow you can revise it and make it better question.

comment How do I handle significant snow and ice dams on a 4/12 gable roof with ridge vents?
While we're at it: in snowy country, build a steeper roof. Also, insulate your ceiling well, so the snow won't melt-and-freeze to make the ice dam. Or make a living roof, nearly flat, very strong, keep the snow as insulation.

Consider taking a picture of the wiring and adding it to your post.

comment How do I unclog my dishwasher?
Keeping this drain clear is important for the dishwasher to work well. If it's clogged, the pump can't pull much water & can't build up pressure to clean the dishes.

comment How do I work around a tree in my fence line?
What is your goal with the fence? Stop deer from eating your garden? Let you send your kids outside without worrying about them running in to the street? Block non-paying neighbor's view when nude sunbathing?

What an interesting idea. I'll ponder it more. Have you ever seen this done for real?

comment What “code” applies to projects that I do in my own home?
@TEster101: The codes here tell me I can't do Oasis Design-style "radical greywater" + Joseph Jenkins "Humanure" toilets. Done right, this is better for the ecosystem and way cheaper than conventional systems. Besides safety, major factors in codes include the willingness of builders to implement those codes, bureaucracy's unwillingness to change. They are also focused on controlling professional builders who have no long-term interest in the success of the home, unlike the owner building her own home.

The noise of forced air is annoying. Here's hoping for some good answers.

comment Which communication bus systems for home automation?
Is this old work or new work? It matters a lot how easy it is to run wires to each location.
