comment Can I build a garbage chute that connects the garage for residential use?
Most of the stinky in my kitchen is from rotting food scraps. The humanure folks use sawdust to control smell. So: get a 5 gallon bucket, and put 2" of sawdust on the bottom. Whenever you have food scraps, dump them in, then add a handful of sawdust. This goes in the compost pile when it's full.

Why does anyone build anything? Lots of people live in these yurts, for example. They're charming.

Wow, I totally didn't get that you wanted to put a ladder on the roof! Feeling a little clueless now. :-)

You said "knockout" but that picture doesn't have knockouts. Knockouts leave a sharp edge that can cut insulation. The pictured box won't do that.

How many stories to the roof? What's the roof pitch?

comment Should I replace my roof or just fix it?
They already did that (diy.stackexchange.com/q/3185/80) and picked up a lot of nails, but we still find some occasionally. We don't walk around barefoot in the grass any more, and miss it. :-(

The original is the Fein MultiMaster, which sells for $300-$400. I used one when the schooner Adventuress was getting new bunks in the fo'c'sl, and it was a very sweet tool. For anyone who will use it often, it's great! According to wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fein_Multimaster) the patent expired in 2008, and now there are many clones. Even Harbor Freight has them for $35 (harborfreight.com/multifunction-power-tool-67256.html) but it will probably turn to trash quickly.

Around here, drain pipes are usually 4" diameter. Sewer pipe is likely to be plugged, as there's nasty stuff in there (duh). Since it doesn't have a cap, I would guess it's a gutter drain.

I've decided that I'm happy with the valve, because it makes it easier to drain the plumbing completely for winter, or flush the plumbing to sanitize.

I just had an electrician here working on a light fixture. To test it, he stuck his finger in the socket. Didn't flinch.

What do you mean by "dry wall and then plaster on top"? Do you mean there's a layer of plaster on top of a layer of drywall? I've never heard of that, but there's a lot I don't know...
