Why does my smoke detector chirp when my bathroom lights are turned on? A hardwired unit would definitely be preferable, but don't most places grandfather existing units? For my locality, you either have to sell with hardwired units or new units with ten-year batteries. |

Second layer of drywall on textured ceiling: Do I need to sand down or remove the texture before second layer goes on? Even more then better attachment, I'd hate to hit a stiff spot and have even out the drywall after hanging it up. |

How efficient is a drop ceiling? We had a room previously with a high (vaulted) ceiling. It could get a bit chilly, but the addition of a ceiling fan at the proper height did the trick. |

Should I apply termite preventative products to pressure treated wood? This is ACQ pressure treated wood, and seems to be the standard for home store use. A decrease in effectiveness would be concerning. |
