@niall Thanks for the tip. I've watched the show several times but didn't know she had a book out.

comment What kind of paint should be used to protect gas meter?
@Niall I haven't called them yet. Technically I'm in the final few weeks of closing escrow so I don't "own" the house yet. Can't wait to roll up my sleeves and get stuff done!

comment Tips and advice for installing a chimney cap?
Thanks! That's awesome info. I agree that fabricating the cap myself would not be advisable. I'm considering getting one of the life-time warranty caps like the Chimney Champion - youtube.com/watch?v=AVKljomx9Q4

comment Tips and advice for installing a chimney cap?
Thanks! I'm not too concerned about getting on the roof considering that I have a one-story house and it's reasonably flat. That's quite interesting about the different terminology at play here. I assumed (incorrectly) that "capping" ALWAYS referred to the process of placing a breathable covered metal vent to prevent rodents and rain from entering the flue.

comment What to consider from picking a toolbox?
Some clarification may be useful: 1) What type of projects are you planning to do? 2) Will this work require you to be traveling to different site locations? 3) Is security a concern?

comment How hard is it to remove ducts?
I'm not sure on the answer but more details may help the pros =) 1) What type of ducts do you have? 2) What kind of access do you have to where they are located? Is there a basement? Crawlspace? 3) How old are the ducts? Are they wrapped in insulation? 4) Approximately how much of it needs to be removed? If your home is older and the ducts have insulation, I'd definitely suggest verifying if they have asbestos before removing them or performing major work.

comment What is the proper way to patch acoustic ceiling after collecting possible asbestos sample?
I'm also thinking that the homax patch texture (lowes.com/pd_14986-1168-8542-30_4294858284_4294937087_) might be better too. The reviews of the spray-on seem a little negative lol.

comment What is the proper way to patch acoustic ceiling after collecting possible asbestos sample?
Great feedback, thanks. Yea, I plan to sample various rooms. What's annoying is that the ceiling isn't in "inconspicuous" places like closets. It's only in the main ceiling portions of the bedrooms, hallways, living room, and family room.

comment About how much would replacing a septic tank cost me?
Thanks Duane. Thankfully the leech field tested fine in the flow test -- it's just the tank that needs to get replaced. We're getting estimates.
