comment Is there a keyed switch that can be used to power off a subpanel?
The overhead lights would be powered by the house sub-panel, and so these would always be available. The shop sub-panel would be used mainly for the receptacles that power the tools.

I'll be pulling wire from the subpanel to the receptacles through EMT conduit. A total of 6 wires (2 hots and a neutral for the 220v, 1 hot and a neutral for the 110v, and 1 common ground). Do I really need a ground wire, or is it ok to use the conduit as ground? (And what's the right way to label the wires?)

What wire gauge would you recommend for the 20A 220V receptacle?
