comment Are power outlets for window A/C units likely to support 220V?
These work for small electronics, even some small appliances. NOT for an air conditioner. At best, if the transformer is 100% efficient, the device will draw twice the amps from the 120v socket. That is a 15 amp socket, and can probably just handle the startup current of a small 120v air conditioner. A larger one that requires 240v will not run from it, even with a transformer.

comment Does oil-based polyurethane have any residual toxicity past setting?
Anything is toxic if you eat enough of it. Don't eat polyurathane, fresh or cured.

Am now picturing someone casually sitting on the couch wearing a full biohazard suit with their roommates smoking around them.

comment Does a 125 AMP panel require a heavier supply cable than a 100 AMP panel?
"feed from the meter on the 100 AMP breaker are corroded, and one is actually loose and occasionally arcs" - that is a problem you need to have fixed immediately. Like today. Before your house burns down. Because it will. Soon.

comment Relocating Main Panel
If you don't have much experience doing electrical work this is a job I would leave to the pros. Especially since you will likely need permits and inspections for it before the hydro company will turn your power back on.

comment Basement shower tiled floor not sealed by builder what now
@mazura for pulling nails - with a normal one you'd put a wood block under so you can push the other end down. This one rocks on the curve. Pretty smart idea actually.

comment Why won't propane come out of my nearly-new propane tank?
"stick my nose right against the tank"...I guess the next step would be to use a lighter to get a better look inside the valve...

comment How to get rid of a permanent old people smell?
There are a lot of different things one might describe as "old people smell" or "nursing home". Can you be more specific? Moth balls? Old spice? Feces? Mildew?

comment What should I do about this smoke detector that beeps constantly?
@paulster2 There may be local rules limiting their lifespan to less than that regardless of what the mfg says - my city was talking about doing that but I don't recall if they actually did.

comment Electrical outlet
@Iggy It doesn't care where ground is, it cares about resistance. If your path to ground is high resistance, it can easily have a fault and NOT draw enough current to trip a breaker.

comment How to test ground/neutral without outlets?
@archonosx sure you can - if in the junction box before this someone messed up and connected black to neutral instead of hot for example.

comment What is the correct way to tile a wall when there are existing electrical sockets
@drewjordan google "oversized faceplate". You can buy them in comically large sizes for people like me who can't drywall/tile worth a damn but try anyways. I've seen some that are about 8" tall.
