I ask way too many questions of my friends, family, and people in my general vicinity so I thought I'd take it to the next level and unintentionally harass people online.

How do I widen a hole in wood for flex tube? I tried preparing a scrap 2x4" as @BMitch suggested but found it difficult. The bit would catch and kick back on the drill. It worked better when I repeatedly plunged the drill through the hole than when I applied constant down pressure. On the real thing, I ended up using a rasp bit to eat away at the hole then used the 1 3/8" bit to do the rest. Once I got the bit in the hole it went through quickly. I don't know why it was easier to drill through the floor than the scrap 2x4". I was able to push the tube through, but then ran into a strange diagonal support beam. But that's another story. |

How do I widen a hole in wood for flex tube? Chosen as the answer since it sounds like it would work and is also the easiest. :) Thanks! |

How do I get to the wall cavity above a double floor joist from below? I wound up drilling diagonally up from the crawl space starting at the corner where the floor joist met the floor. The drilling angle enabled me to avoid going through the button board. Essentially, I was wrong in saying "I have no room underneath...to drill up into the cavity." |

How can I effectively use Google Sketchup to render walls, doors, and windows? At sweethome3d.com/importModels.jsp it says "For Google 3D Warehouse models available only in SKP/SketchUp format, it is possible to easily convert them to DAE/Collada format by choosing File > Export > 3D Model... out of the menu in the free version of SketchUp." I did this a long time ago with a design of an ikea desk found in a SketchUp library. |

Potential wall socket fault So all of your testing equipment says that the outlet is fine but the surge suppressor indicates that it is not? Does your testing equipment work on intentionally bad wiring? Does your surge strip trip on known good wiring? |

How do I find out if Air Admittance Valves (AAVs) are allowed in my municipality? @dbracey: I'd need to move my washer about 8 feet laterally but the two plumbers who gave me estimates said that they'd have to run a new vent line up and out instead. That added a lot to the labor costs which is why I'm considering the AAV. One said he wasn't certain that the current vent pipe was actually venting, even after going up into the attic. They were highly rated contractors (on yelp) so I'm not sure what to believe. |

How do I find out if Air Admittance Valves (AAVs) are allowed in my municipality? Thanks auujay, thanks make a lot of sense. At first I thought you meant a department of my local home center (in which cased I'd be SOL) but then I realized you were talking about my city. |

Where to find drawer box components? Thanks Tester. Do you know of a source for detailed instructions on doing it the old fashioned way? A lot of carpentry instructions I've come across throw out terminology for cuts and tools that make it seem like you have to be a carpenter to understand. |

Where to find drawer box components? Thanks again shirlock. I suspect that my cabinets were custom made at least 30 years ago so I don't think I could get boxes from the manufacturer. I'm not averse to building my own (heck, I took woodshop in 8th grade ;) but the notion of doing it without the right tools seems daunting. It seems that I'd have to spend about $300 to get something that will last though that could pay for itself over time. |
