I love creating elegant software solutions to novel problems.

Data is the future. Optimization is not our enemy.

comment How to accurately cut plywood with unpowered hand tools?
aluminum brackets and steel saw should mitigate that. You'll definitely have drift that needs to be retouched by sander and planer.... You could use as easily use hardwood guides though those will be trickier to clamp effectively

comment What is an oven anti-tip device and how do you install one?
Your answer is perfectly legitimate... but are people actually stepping onto their open oven doors while cooking on the stovetop?

comment Can I support a granite countertop overhang with embedded steel bars?
@lenny Check my answer below about using square stock. I found that it worked fine. I wouldn't recommend standing on it but it seemed rigid enough. I suspect a welded lattice would have been better but my way has held up. Just be sure than when you place the slab on the subtop that you have fully covered it (using notched trowel) with your adhesive. Don't just use a few globs (as I have seen installers do)

comment How can I T splice a 120V line in a lighting fixture?
Regardless of your splicing method, it must be enclosed in an accessible junction box. It cannot be open on top of the fixture.

comment Do acrylic glu-up tub surrounds require backer boards, waterproof membrane underneath?
Greenboard is typically not an acceptable shower back. I don't know if it's allowed when adhering a PVC surround.

comment How can I determine what grade air filter is appropriate?
I tend to use the highest grade filter I can find in a traditional hardware store. This is a relatively inexpensive item that prolongs the life of my ductwork and equipment. A few extra bucks a year.

comment What could be causing my kitchen drawers to be sliding out?
So your tracks weren't actually level. They were vertically level but they were sloped in like this: / \ .. the tighter screw pulled back of the track outward which encourages the drawer out. Adjusting the screw gives you tracks more like | |

+1, it isn't the drawer that is unlevel. It is the track!

@Joe The pixels are not stuck. It's not an LCD. It's a DLP projector and these are dead mirrors on his DMD :(

@amphibient yours is a DLP projector, then. This part may be user-servicable but be very careful working around the light engine.

It depends on the projector. You may be able to replace it or it may be under extended warranty.

comment splicing a 25 pair telephone riser
So you're going to cut the wires, then. I strongly suggest you do this with two blocks in accessible locations and not with "beans" in the walls.

comment splicing a 25 pair telephone riser
@Johnny he has to move the block. The wires just aren't long enough to put it where he wants... So what can he do except to hide the existing block and run jumpers between it and a second block?

comment How wide can a sliding door be open, before it becomes a security risk?
I'd suggest that your device will not stop a determined person with malicious intent. Just to test this out, I've personally defeated the "piece of wood in the track" option with bent wire. Instead, consider whether they'll be able to defeat the device without waking you.

comment How can I hook up my dishwasher drain properly?
@Mazura an airgap helps prevent backflow of contaminated water into the supply in the unlikely event of pressure inversion in the pipes.

Is there a reason you can't drill into the masonry and use masonry anchors?

comment What are the pros and cons of adding a vapor barrier behind shower backer board?
If he uses a product like durock, he must apply a barrier to protect the studs. This could be something like kerdi (in your example) or redgard or a traditional barrier but never more than one of these.

comment How would I connect several speakers to an amplifier for multi room sound?
@chegov Your amplifier has a max rating per channel. A splitter won't increase this power, it will just match the impedance as needed. I'd suggest that you amp with 2 channels likely doesn't have sufficient power for six speakers but I would be more certain if you gave me the model number
