comment What's involved in moving a support post?
It looks to me like it's a jackpost with a kingstud on one side. The photos don't look like the beams are lapped... though they certainly could be. The "bear picture" wall appears structural so there will already be a footing below it. The "kitchen cabinet wall" may not be.

@DMoore I don't know what's in the attic just like I don't know what's in the walls. However, it's entirely possible that the attic space is large enough given the way the skylight hole looks deep. There is a wall to both sides of the post which could contain new structure. OP asked what about be involved in removing the post... I delivered. New structure above or new structure below.

@DMoore Yes and this beam relocation is quite feasible, especially if there is sufficient space in the attic.

Not with a beam inside the attic space. The only thing you would see would be a steel bracket at the junction of the beam. The Question asked what would be entailed in this structural change... my answer explains exactly that.

comment Using a Light Bulb Socket Switch to Control a Buzzer
+1 Safe, but not always functional. Some switches rely upon higher wattages running through them to function... which is why some timers fail on high efficiency led bulbs.

Island conversion is a pretty good idea. Clear up that entire "bear picture" wall.

-1 The question isn't really about whether or not we think renovation is necessary.

comment How can I remove 6-8 inches of concrete from a wooden floor?
lightweight concrete is sometimes used over top of wood floors in multi-story buildings as a fire break.

comment How do I remove a double-ended T3 R7S bulb that isn't spring loaded?
@Comintern I'll try with gloves later tonight, if I break the bulb at least I will have removed it... What is it that makes you think the left side is the sprung side? On visual inspection the two sides seem the same to me.

@Ecnerwal no luck with the wrench, those nuts seem to just hold the terminals into the bracket.

If it's spring loaded it requires more force than I would do without leather gloves. I was thinking there might be a hidden catch I'm supposed to push somewhere but I don't see one. A wrench won't help because the ends appear to only come out when the bulb is removed.

comment How to accurately cut plywood with unpowered hand tools?
aluminum brackets and steel saw should mitigate that. You'll definitely have drift that needs to be retouched by sander and planer.... You could use as easily use hardwood guides though those will be trickier to clamp effectively

comment What is an oven anti-tip device and how do you install one?
Your answer is perfectly legitimate... but are people actually stepping onto their open oven doors while cooking on the stovetop?

comment Can I support a granite countertop overhang with embedded steel bars?
@lenny Check my answer below about using square stock. I found that it worked fine. I wouldn't recommend standing on it but it seemed rigid enough. I suspect a welded lattice would have been better but my way has held up. Just be sure than when you place the slab on the subtop that you have fully covered it (using notched trowel) with your adhesive. Don't just use a few globs (as I have seen installers do)

comment How can I T splice a 120V line in a lighting fixture?
Regardless of your splicing method, it must be enclosed in an accessible junction box. It cannot be open on top of the fixture.

comment Do acrylic glu-up tub surrounds require backer boards, waterproof membrane underneath?
Greenboard is typically not an acceptable shower back. I don't know if it's allowed when adhering a PVC surround.

comment How can I determine what grade air filter is appropriate?
I tend to use the highest grade filter I can find in a traditional hardware store. This is a relatively inexpensive item that prolongs the life of my ductwork and equipment. A few extra bucks a year.
