I love creating elegant software solutions to novel problems.

Data is the future. Optimization is not our enemy.

comment I have flies after painters came
Are these typical black flies? Or small flies like fruit flies? If they are fruit flies then they are not "getting in" but perhaps a piece of fruit was left in the trash bin... most citrus fruits are already full of eggs we just consume the fruit before the larval stage...

comment What type of drywall tape should I use for a drywall to plaster patch?
Is there living space on the other side of that?

comment What can I use to adequately insulate round rigid metal ducts?
I have found it easier and cheaper to actually wrap the entire round duct in an insulated flex duct and just "specially" wrap the points where it branches off.

comment Do we need to install shoe molding?
If you don't want shoe molding (as I didn't in my home) I undercut all the drywall, giving the wood an additional 1/2 inch of expansion space (as the possible expense of drafts)

comment Basement subfloor, how exactly should I do it?
Treated wood against concrete, and not constantly submerged isn't going to rot. If you have a stick framed house then you likely have treated wood against your footing.

@user15608 I have used Tyvek housewrap products but I don't know if they'd be appropriate for this use. Perhaps something like this? solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Adhesives/Tapes/Promotions/…

I would paint the concrete with a sealant and then I would probably double-layer a vapor barring above them, under the plywood.

comment How many ground rods are required for panel and subpanel?
The subpanel has its ground bonded to the ground at the service panel. Is there a problem with running the grounding conductor 30' to a rod? The service panel is over concrete.

@Tester101 Yes.

comment Do I have to remove the old thinset before installing new tile?
@AngelaL. I don't know if it would work for linoleum glue... the reason it works so well fro thinset is because the granules break and fling off. I imagine that linoleum glue might just melt and bind to the brush? Try it and see! These brushes are pretty cheap. WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES AND A MASK!

comment How can I attach a 1/8" strip of steel to MDF so that it stays secure forever for eternity?
@oscilatingcretin lining up your channels may be more of a challenge than you bargained for. At this stage you might as well have square stock welded into a reinforced and rigid shape.

I got mine at Lowes. Consider that you're to compare the rigidity of the steel square stock to the equivalent shape in MDF. You can also get aluminum square stock from many providers online.

comment How to remove construction adhesive from concrete?
@shirlockhomes I agree with you, but in the context of this answer: if there's a sure-fire way to gum-up and run through sanding pads quick it's with urethane glues.

comment How can I replace a board in floating wood floor?
I think I understand... Remove the bottom of the groove on the new board, clear the groove on the intact board... Insert the tongue of the new board into the existing groove on the intact board, then set and weight the top-half of the modified groove on the new board?

Do you think the board will be stable with only a single tongue on one side of the board? What will keep it from flapping?

I cannot glue down, this is a floating install.
