I'm an AV geek at heart but I love programming.

Under what circumstances can aluminum be in contact with steel? In terms of the flashing that means taping over the steel ties and removing all the steel nails to drive aluminum ones. |

How effective are angle-grinder wood discs for removing material? I marked this as the answer because it reflect the reality after my testing with various grits in the belt-sander, orbital sander and grinder. |

How to open NM box knockouts? +1 the "flap" also prevents wires from being easily pulled out of the box. Careful when inserting into the box, though, because the sharp edges can damage even new romex sheathing... It's like the nut on metal boxes, though I see the plastic boxes damage the wire more often than the metal nuts. |

How can I mount a TV when I can't find studs inside my wall? @VebjornLjosa good point. Still, though, tapping in a small nail to check for the stud will work. I'm confident with my stud-finder but I still use the nail method when mounting heavy things to my walls. |

Settlement crack - is this one? @jstephenson no wallboard I've ever seen has a "z" shaped seam. |

How effective are angle-grinder wood discs for removing material? Where two planks of 2x8 butt together, one has a lip 1/4" above the other. I have a belt-sander too, but I thought the grinder attachments would be more aggressive... It is not because of the fasteners, either... all boards in the house have been re-screwed to the joists. |

Is a thick, unvented hot roof a good candidate for spray foam? I have dropped the rock. I'm in climate zone 4/5. The rest of the house has a vented attic, just not this section as it was a permitted addition (surprised it passed inspection, personally). Will the foam keep insects from entering the cavity as well? |
