comment Replacing bathroom switch from single to double switch
Probably right (75%), but the question is vague and we really have no idea how the wiring is connected at the fan/light end. Worth a request for clarification and maybe a picture of the ceiling box?

comment Do all conductors on a 20-amp circuit need to be 12 AWG?
Further on @Tester101 's explanation re luminaires: the amperage they can draw is limited by the nature of the fixture and the bulb max limitation. You would need about 1500 watts before you approached the limitations of a 15 amp circuit. If there are that many bulb sockets, the lamp wiring would likely be heavier by design (and would need to be for UL approval).

comment wiring for an oldish house
As @NiallC. suggests, there is no rule or even convention that distinguishes between red/black hot lines. While many may favor black as live, since it is the default in x/2 wiring, it is far from a standard.

comment Reverse wiring basement lights
Note that Code now requires a neutral at all switches, so a 2-rope to the switch from the last light doesn't comply. Run a 3-rope and leave the neutral capped for possible future smart switch use.

comment Why is my recessed light not working?
Does the line power come through the switch box, or does it go directly to the pot with the switch serving as a remote? Can you post pictures of the wiring at the switch and at the pot?

You eventually need to fix that gate valve, but a cap seems like the best bet for the short term.

comment Wiring issue for fan, switch and light
It is unclear as to what you are describing. There are two boxes at issue - the fixture and the switch. Please try to elaborate on what wires you have in what box, and what wires are connected to each other now.
