comment Non wood basement panels
When you say non-wood, do you mean to exclude wood derived products, such as MDF and hardboard? Also, what is the purpose? Just decoration? Screening of utilities? Protection of something? Rigid barriers to entry?

comment Is there a limit to the number of holes bored in a joist?
Code or no, you know the inspector would reject. There is an implied obligation (and maybe an express general provision) to use sound building materials, and swiss cheese boards are obviously a material (pun intended) compromise of that obligation.

comment Unused Chimney Flues
Why not just put metal flashing over the openings, with a small lip around the flue. Seal with mastic.

+1 But unless you are powering the two outlets from separate circuits, there is no need to break the tab off the neutral side

Furnace is also usually 24V but those transformers tend to be at the furnace itself with a 120V line in proximity.

comment Replace a dimmer switch with a regular light switch
You are describing what is often called a 3-way switch, not a 3 pole switch (3 poles would have three separate circuits and at least 6 wires).

comment What should be the thickness of a glass table top
Note that glass cannot be cut after it is tempered, so you need to buy the exact size you intend to use.

30x60 with no indicated center support (edge support only)? This seems to be risky, even for tempered. Is there an industry guide as to unsupported expanses considered safe?

comment Best way to splice together 20/22 gauge wiring?
You also can simply twist and solder them and then wrap with electrical tape. That assumes you have a light duty soldering iron and electrical solder (another field trip?). You also can use tiny wire nuts (they make them for 22-24 gauge at least).

I find that the pricier strippers, such as a Klein is worth it. However elves use the Acme-Kris-Kringle Universal Thingamajig
