What considerations do I need to make when mounting heavy objects on plaster walls? Good answer below. For serious weight, find the studs. For lighter weight, the same general rules apply as to plasterboard. Plaster structure is stronger (becasue of the lathe), but more prone to cracks. The only real difference is you have to go deeper, through both plaster and lathe. |

Should I mount brackets to the wall or the shelves first? It looks as if the keyhole slots for the shelves have the narrow slot in the back. In that case, the shelves lock in by sliding back, so mounting the brackets on the wall first should work. It also has the advantage of not having to lift and support the shelf while you are attaching the brackets. |

Can different gauge wiring be used in the same circuit? @TheEvilGreebo You are right. Some of the breakers are 20A, but the ones with 14 gauge (including the one I am extending) are 15A. I edited the Q. |
