comment Adding a two-way circuit to a three-way circuit
Yes, but which switch? Switch 1, you're good, connect to black power wire. Switch 2 is no good, it requires another conductor. Same goes for the other switch in the box.

comment Is there anything I can use to remove gorilla glue from hardwood?
AFAIK anything that'll remove cured polyurethane based adhesives such as Gorilla glue will also destroy the finish, which is either a different polyurethane based product, or something even less resistant. You may as well sand it off and refinish the area. At least steps have easily defined, limited areas where matching finish isn't difficult.

comment Leave the water heater on?
You are correct of course, but I don't feel you adequately explained the reasoning. This is very similar to confusion over energy saved in heating a house by turning down the thermostat when the house is empty against how much energy is needed to bring the house back up to temperature. That reasoning is fallacious. It doesn't matter what energy is needed to raise the temperature. All that matters is how much energy is needed to replace heat lost, and as you point out, there is less heat lost when the temperature difference is less.

comment How to properly ground a subpanel in detached building?
The NEC allows for both approaches, independent grounding electrodes or grounding along with feeder conductors. With independent grounding, the neutral is bonded to the grounding system, when grounding with feeder it is not. The grounding bus is always bonded to the enclosure no matter what. I've no idea about GFCI requirements, that requirement was introduced after I stopped following updates to the code.

comment Found hole with water under house
Dry sump maybe isn't the right term. Basically a way to dispose of unwanted incidental water, such as snow melt of of vehicles in a garage. Many municipalities forbid this sort of thing to be dumped into their sewer system, and it's often impossible to bring such drains out to surface drainage due to topography.

comment Can I move this drain line from the wall to the floor?
:D That's thinking creatively! But probably not OK. Tailpieces are supposed to be "as short as possible" and in any case no longer than 2 feet. If your sink is unusually deep it may comply. Also, vent lines are not supposed to take off horizontally, they are supposed to be at least 45 deg. off horizontal. However, I see improper horizontal takeoffs quite often and they don't seem to cause any real issues. Code aside, I myself would not install a sink trap unless it is readily accessible for cleaning.

The vent line needs to take off when the trap arm drops from horizontal to vertical. Venting from below the floor will not work, you will siphon water out of the trap with that configuration.

comment Should I install insulation between the rim joist and the top of foam insulation?
That's one option. As long as you cover all cold surfaces possible with insulation, by what ever means, you'll be good.

Solar gain can drive temperatures up well above ambient, causing the air con to kick on. Two hours during the day could be more cooling than ten at night.

comment How to caulk vertical seams of concrete step risers?
I would use single part polyurethane sealant. The stuff sticks to anything. Mine came in a grey color that works with concrete, but it is also paintable once fully cured.

comment I broke my shower light fixture cover. Is it safe to use until I can find a replacement?
Showering while in this condition is a bad idea IMO. If you could seal the internals off with plastic sheeting and tape... then it might be OK to shower. Keep a close eye on it for signs of any moisture intrusion.
