comment Height of cabinet for induction cooktop
This should really be on the Home Improvement stackexchange, since it has to do with appliance installation. But really, just go to Bosch's website and download the installation instructions PDF if your cooktop didn't come with it.

comment What type of anchor is this and what is the max capacity ?
@ZeroStack I can't say for sure with this particular product, but in my experience differently-colored products of the same type, from the same manufacturer, usually denote different size/capabilities. So while Edwin's are rated for 70 lbs, it may be the case that yours (which are gray, not blue) are rated for a different weight.

comment How to bid a job repairing hidden damage in stages to avoid a “time and materials” job
@CandiedOrange I'm not an expert by any means but I agree with Adam Davis, the symptoms you've described sound like the wall is not in very good shape. If you have a second bathroom to use in the meantime, doing the demo yourself would be slower but you'd learn more about what's going on in the wall, which could help you solicit more accurate bids. But if it's your only bathroom, you don't want it out of commission longer than absolutely necessary.

comment How do I tell if my house is brick or brick veneer?
-1 I live in a house that, like thousands of other rowhouses in Philadelphia and I'm guessing other cities in this part of the US as well, is basically a brick box formed by an inner and outer brick wall. Beams with their ends sitting in the inner layer of brick hold up the upper floors. The outer layer of brick is the outside surface of the house (in the front and back, the side walls are up against the neighbor's). Mine was built around 1900.

comment What is the metal I have in my wall?
there are no permanent changes made: if you are drilling into metal fixtures in the wall, you are making permanent changes. Also, you don't mention having tested for live electricity in the wall, but your drill holes are horizontally very close to that electric outlet. Either cut a small square hole in the drywall so you can get a clear look, and repair the hole, or talk to the building manager about what's going on in the wall.

comment Help identify this electric clothes dryer part from an Asko T701 dryer?
Thanks! That at least gives me a better idea of where and in what orientation it was installed.

comment What is type of screw is this?
Also, the little arrow symbol stamped on the cam-lock (you can see it in the OP's photo) points to the open spot on the cam. So if you're trying to remove it, turn the cam so the arrow is facing the piece you want to remove.

comment HVAC Duct options in floor joists
@KalelWade I'd try to find someone you know who has a high-velocity system and listen to it in operation before getting one installed. That high velocity comes with higher noise levels. I put an HV system in my small house a few years ago and if I had to do it again I'd go with mini-splits, they're much quieter.

Thanks, I did end up calling the city and will post what I found as an answer momentarily. Spoiler alert: the guy isn't licensed to do anything in the city.

Thanks, at this point I can't even verify that this guy is licensed. Really, apart from the estimate, I have no proof that the business even exists. Mainly I want to establish his license status because the sellers have been dodgy about a few things so far.
