How do I connect an air compressor to blow out my sprinkler lines? Perfect. It is amazing what you can find in a hardware store if you look. The only thing I would add is a ball valve. If you do this often, it is nice to be able to shut the air supply on and off, without shutting off the compressor, and without needing to detach the air hose. As well, the sudden blast of air you can get from opening the ball valve can be helpful to get the last dregs of water out of a line. It would be simply added to the pieces you have, since you can get these valves in a female 1/4 NPT thread. |

Check heating pipes for thermal leaks I have an IR thermometer. When not in use for its primary purpose, I use it for a variety of things like checking the temperature of a batch of apple sauce to ensure it has been properly pasteurized. |

Water filtration system recommendations No, it appears they are in Mexico. Even if they cannot find a lab to do the testing, there are over the counter water test kits you can buy. They are not terribly accurate, but they will flag most problems. But definitely test the water. |

How do I fill in the grooves in wood paneling in order to paint over it? I know that DAP sold it, but this was roughly 10 years ago that I used the product, when we moved into our current home. If you can't find that stuff, then you could just use a regular latex caulk in a gun. Squeeze a bead into the length of the groove, then run a taping knife down on top to smooth it out. It will flex with the paneling, so not crack over time. |

Why should I use advanced nails instead of wood screws for strength? A nail gun will drive a nail as fast as you can move the gun into place and slap it against the wood. Read my answer. Save 3 seconds per nail compared to a screw. Drive 10 nails or 10 screws, who cares? Drive 10,000 nails. This means you have saved 30,000 seconds. 30,000 seconds is 8.3 man-hours of work, a man-day! A contractor building a house has no interest in paying their crew for additional man-days of work, and to do so day after day. |
