May 17	comment	What type of clothing is required when working around asbestos? If you even suspect that asbestos may be present wear a disposable Tyvec coverall and throw it away after each use. Even if washing did remove the fibers your house, vehicle and everywhere in between could be contaminated.

Depending on the cost benifit/labor saved factor you could expand on @Sherwoods idea and slide an 8' pipe over your 6' pipe. Drill and tap a hole in the outer pipe both top and bottom. Insert a bolt to lock the two pipes together so it won't rattle. It will have a finished look with no welding.
