comment Are water boilers dangerous when showering?
@ratchetfreak Aren't people discouraged from putting heavy-load devices on GFCI? I know that most refrigerators state this in the manual, but I haven't ever had an electric water heater except when in rental situations where I was not responsible for installation or maintenance.

comment Cheap wood-ish replacement for glass panel in door
Exactly. If the glass is out of the frame it makes your job a little easier. I'm also a little surprised that the molding is on the exterior, though this could be an example where it's a squared opening and molding on both sides.

comment Can I safely use a 9w LED bulb in place of a 40w incandescent?
It's probably worth noting that the desired light output (lumens) may be a consideration too. For a reading lamp, 950 lumens may be too bright for comfortable use. Just because you can use the brighter bulb doesn't mean brighter is better.

Note that (normally) the molding is only on one side; the other side is shaped so that it looks the same, but is fixed in place. Make sure you are on the right side before you start prying. Also, you should pry away from the door frame, not up from the glass. (!!)

The "Diva" in that PDF looks like it's the exact one we have.

The switches are identical. So I would expect that one to heat up just as much, if not more. But like I said, that might just be a function of how much we use them relatively.

I will have to look. The chandelier bulbs are the mini flame style. 10 bulbs, but probably 25 or 40W each. No idea what is in the can.

comment What do volts and amps imply for angle grinders?
And make sure your extension cord is also rated for the amps you're planning to put through it.

comment Is it more economical to use hot water before boiling or to bring cold water to a boil?
It is irrelevant, not because it referred to children, but because of the rather callous or thoughtless nature of it - an insult toward the state of parenthood does not provide any useful information.

comment How can I tighten a bolt in a circular hole?
@DanNeely Unless it's a hammer drill, the chromed sockets should be fine.

comment How do I install cabinets on a floating hardwood floor?
So, kind of building legs or pedestals for the cabinets so they ride slightly above the floor surface? That should work.

Tile is slightly different because it is typically cemented down, not floating. However, in every case I can think of, the island would be attached directly to the subfloor, not through the tile or wood surface. For new construction, this is usually done by installing the cabinets first, then the flooring is installed around them. For existing construction, cutting away the hole for it to sit in seems like the best option.

comment Halogen torchiere standing lamp
@bshor - I agree, they were great lights. I guess this is a case where public perception won out over common sense and fact?
