comment Can a non-professional drill holes in a granite countertop?
By alignment jig, you mean some other material with the holes pre-drilled in it that I would clamp to the countertop?

comment Can a non-professional drill holes in a granite countertop?
Just to comment on @mike and Jacob, great idea, had thought about that. There is about 1/2" clearance between the top of the kegerator and counter, so running the lines would be hard. Also keep in mind the space had to be cooled, or the warm air will cause the beer in the lines to foam. I would need to build some sort of enclosed channel, which in that amount of space would be very hard.

comment Is it OK to have a 20 Amp receptacle on a circuit with 12 AWG wiring and a 15 Amp breaker?
My local code requires up-scaling to 12 AWG copper for all wiring, even if using 15A breakers and outlets.

comment What is an affordable 2D drafting software for amateurs?
Code in my area (NE Ohio) does not require this at all. I refinished my whole basement, which included a bathroom and kitchenette, and all I needed was a plumbing and electrical inspection after the work for that part was complete. Didn't even need a permit. No engineering drawings. Bottom line, check first before you start work.

comment Should I nail, and glue my hardwood flooring?
Can you provide more detail on the Tasmanian Blackwood flooring? Is it solid, engineered, or laminate? Is it tongue and groove, click install, planks? Are you using a pad, paper or anything between the flooring and subfloor? All these will help determine the answers to your questions. ALso may want to simply ask the place where you bought the flooring, they usually will recommend the type of nail or staples to use.

comment Are there any differences in the quality of products sold at contractor's supply store vs. big box hardware stores?
Totally agree, my hampton bay is not good and it's noisy. I do not classify that into the "upper end". Have 2 hampton bays, both noisy, and three Hunter's and they rock.

comment How to install a proper deck ledger AFTER the fact?
Converting to a detached deck was my first thought also. Although many municipalities have different rules about attached and detached decks, so you might want to check.

comment Was this basement window installed properly?
make sure that downspout is extended a little further away from the large window well. as it looks in the pic, water could end up running back into it.

comment Electric requirements for gas stove
Personal preference - look at duel fuel ranges. I am assuming you are talking about ranges with cooktop and a stove, and moving to gas to get a gas cooktop. If so, get the duel fuel ones have gas cooktop but electric ovens. Gas ovens are not as popular because they are harder to regulate temperature and do not cook as evenly. As other have said, run 220 so you have it and you you are not limited in the future when you get the new one.

comment What should I do about an overflowing septic system?
Well, its technically one leech field. There are just multiple beds. We have 6 runs, divided into 2 pairs of three. So at one time, the septic is using 3 runs. Almost everyone around here in NE Ohio is that way in one form or another, maybe 2x2 runs or 2x4 runs, etc.

comment Automatic garage door opener opens when it hits the floor
this happens to me when just a little bit of ice and snow build up right where the door hits the floor. It does not look like much, and may even look like it is closed, but I have to clean it out.

comment Can I run CAT5/6 cables parallel to electrical cables?
didn't realize 6e was not a "true standard", although if you google it everyone sells it. Updated that to clarify. Also changed the safety comment.

comment Is urethane based grout worth the cost for bathroom tile?
12x12 mainly, but with some clipped corners and a sheet of 4 1x1 tiles on those corners. So more grout than just a normal single tile layout.
