What's a good way to customize or recess a lightswitch? You can however cut the little ears off all four corners of the switch, it's designed to let you do that so it fits in certain types of enclosures (which is why they come pre-scored). Bending the metal tabs where the 6/32 screws hold it to the box violates the rating of the switch. |

What's a good way to customize or recess a lightswitch? Note, I didn't say violate :) You just void the rating by modifying the device in any way (that also goes for the rough in box currently housing the switch). If you bend the metal on the switch to install it, you void its rating. If you modify the box, you void the rating of the box. |

What's a good way to customize or recess a lightswitch? @McKay Also realize that by installing a UL listed wiring device other than how it was intended to be installed, you ruin the UL rating. Additionally, wiring devices must remain accessible. I am an electrician, I don't recommend doing it. |

Why aren't all houses equipped with fire sprinklers? @ChrisF There are some practical reasons for this. Water pressure in residential neighborhoods (especially with row homes) could go down significantly in some circumstances, which makes fire plugs (and other sprinklers 'down the line') less useful, for instance. If this question was edited to state a more specific area (or even country), it would be better. |

Is plunging a toilet without a plunger a good tip or a horrible idea? I would probably not attempt that if anything was floating in the bowl. The weight of the additional water, and the sudden force it creates against the blockage might not be sufficient to free said blockage. Wear rain boots, if you try it. |

How can I override a motion detector light? Do you have a constant hot in the box where the fixture is attached, or is the only feed coming from the switch leg? |

Which Kitchen outlets do NOT need GFCI? It's actually six feet (which covers the arm span of most adults that don't play professional basketball). If you can hold on to a sink and touch it, it needs to be GFCI protected. Overkill here, however, is never a bad thing :) |

How to install 230V Light with Light-activated-resistor? Can you show a picture with all of the devices and the wires coming out of them? It's very hard to say looking at what you have. |

Why does power loss leave my split/ductless AC unit inoperable for hours or days? I'm pretty sure something is wrong with the unit. You could go checking for relays, I suppose, but it sounds new enough for everything to be solid state. If it wouldn't cost a fortune to have it serviced, I'd go that route. |

Is there a way to mark/label a special use switch? Yes, that's exactly the kind of switch I had in mind. I know Leviton makes one just like it but cheaper, I just can't find a link to it. |
