Correct amps for cooktop and separate oven Can you perhaps post a clear picture of the junction box? Additionally, are those conductors copper or aluminium? |

Correct amps for cooktop and separate oven @Tester101 He'll need a bit of SJ cord and the appropriate cord cap, but .. that kind of falls into the "call an electrician" bit of advice :) Both appliances should be easily removed for service with a simple means of disconnect. When you hit that kind of mess, it's time to call someone. |

Correct amps for cooktop and separate oven @Tester101 Correct, but .. have you seen an electric oven that is happy with 20 amps? I'm pretty sure what the OP needs is two range receptacles. Also, both need a means of disconnect unless in direct sight of the panel. |

How can I get a wire that is outside a wall to be inside a wall +1, but I'd recommend renting a right angle low gear drill + auger to make the hole. Keyhole saws, especially on old joists tend to be .. well .. not pleasant. At the best, you end up with this odd graphite smell and taste in the air. |

Which way is up? (electric outlet) Folks a split receptacle is just a normal one with a connecting pin taken off. Just put in a regular receptacle and connect it to the always hot or switched leg depending on your preferences. |

Do open-back low voltage boxes have advantages over standard outlet boxes? Fix accidental noise in image tag, tidy up bare link to cite the resource name |

What could be causing my water heater inlet pipe to corrode? Well, worth a check, but if your whole house is wired with non metallic cable .. probably just a shot in the dark :) |

Does the NEC allow electrical wiring to run next to a ventilation duct? Will the conductor be running through a plenum ceiling (e.g, do air returns share the same air as cabling?) Is the vent directly from the range and not dependent on the bulkhead's air space to get it outside? |

What could be causing my water heater inlet pipe to corrode? Are there any metal clad electrical cables coming into contact with the pipe? That is a very common cause of accelerated ferrous oxidation. |

What's a good way to customize or recess a lightswitch? From the images given? Probably. Again, see the last part of my answer. I'm telling you (as an electrician from the US) that what you're doing would not pass an inspection if you in any way modify the switch, or the rough in box that holds it. |
