comment Best practice for oily rag safety?
@Johnny - I know that flammable rags have caused problems in laundromats. Maybe lightly saturated might not cause a problem, but explosions have happened due to flammable rags and the spark of a motor starting.

comment Is this fluorescent light fixture a major electrical problem / fire hazard?
Nice picture of the date code: Sep1965...that means the warranty ran out in 1970. I think that ballast got its moneys worth.

comment What are the pros and cons of different types of smart switches (that are on the US market) ?
X10 is not around any more. All you can find online is just the lesser used products. I work for an X10 dealer and we've had no contact with them in months. I think the world will be a better place.

comment Is my window air conditioner cooling properly?
Make sure the fins have not been mashed together so air can get in. If so brush the fins lightly with a brass wire brush.

comment How do I appropriately/safely connect multiple power tools to a 20-amp outlet?
Is your breaker box near your garage or on the outside of your garage? If not could a circuit be ran on the outside of your house or underground? If the box is nearby or if you ran your own conduit it would be worth it to have an electrician put in a circuit. If conduit has to be run and you dig the trench then you would not have to pay for the labor for that part of the job.

I think this question would be better suited at gardening.stackexchange.com.

comment Why are some submersible well pumps wired with solid and others stranded?
Amperage and voltage should be the same as long as it is building wire. Some fine stranded cables handle double what regular solid or stranded, but price is high.

Actually we suggest either a resin kit 3M 82A Series for underwater or cold shrink for moisture tight seals. A lot of times the insulation on heat shrink is too thin.

comment Is there a name for PVC pipe that's approx 1/2“ ID and 5/8” OD?
It is very important to remember that if the ID is larger than the OD, it is not pipe...(;-)...sorry, couldn't resist.

comment Was coal ever used as an insulator?
My grandfather used coal for heat and when it was delivered it was piled up not far from his house. Maybe the is where somebody kept their coal kept? It could have been mortared over after they switched heat source.

comment How do I choose a circular saw?
My saw is actually a cheap Craftsman, but between a table saw, a chop saw a mitre saw I don't use it unless I absolutely have to or don't want to dig the others out. If I bought a saw it would be a worm drive, but with my arthritis and other ailments, it would just collect dust with all my other power tools. But I gotem if I needum.

comment Ok to use 3 wire to wire pairs of lights, for pairs of dimmers?
Looks like @BMitch nailed it pretty good. Unless you have something else, he should get the answer.

comment Is there a device that will allow a bathroom fan to run for 5 minutes after it is switched off?
Broan makes a vent fan that has a motion switch built into the fan. Also moisture sensing available.

comment Is there a device that will allow a bathroom fan to run for 5 minutes after it is switched off?
I was thinking about a vacancy sensor (manual on - sensor off) that is rated for a motor load, but I can't find any.

comment Is an LED light strip safe to use under a bed?
What we use as a display at work stays on 24/7 and you can touch the lamps anytime and the heat is not noticeable.

comment How much less power does a three-phase A\C unit use as apposed to a 220v unit?
Wattage is wattage, can't help you there. However I think three phase will let you do in less horsepower also, and less horsepower is less wattage. Does a 5 ton unit use the same motor on three phase as it does in single phase?
