comment How do I remove a brass pipe that has been jammed into a larger iron pipe?
This is essentially what the plumber did. I didn't have the stomach to try to sawzall it myself.

I had to eventually call a plumber -- it just wasn't coming free the way I would expect. He wailed on it for almost 20 minutes -- sawzall, chisel+hammer, the whole nine yards. When he pulled it out it was not soldered, but just calcified so entirely that it bonded extremely tightly.

comment How can I get the drain apparatus out of a pedestal wash basin?
Thanks for the comment. I do have a basin wrench already, as @bmitch says my problem was more about getting the trap off.

@BMitch there aren't any securing screws to the wall that I can see. I've never installed a pedestal wash basin before, is it possible that the basin is just free-floating on top of the base? The base is caulked to the bottom of the floor, I was avoiding removing that seal but I suppose if there's no other way, then that's the course I must take.
