comment Leaking outdoor faucet - stop gap solution?
Well, I tried purchasing the hose cap as suggested in the answer. Unfortunately, Home Depot only had shoddy plastic ones, so once the pressure of the leak built up it just pushed the leak farther back out through the vacuum seal thingy. So I started to take the thing apart, stripped the screw on the handle, broke the handle, cursed a lot, put in a replacement handle, and the leak is gone! Thanks for the help. :-)

Perfect! I was searching for "faucet cap" when it was "hose cap" all along. :-) The only problem is this is too perfect and now I'll never replace the faucet...

Yes, I agree that I will waste a lot of time. However, alas it is too late for me. I already lit a couple fires in the pit (it is functional - just the lips make the stones stack in ugly ways). So I'm guessing Lowes would not appreciate me returning them at this point. :-)

@0A0D Looks-wise they worked perfectly for the fire pit. It is just the stupid lips that are causing trouble. :-)

Thanks. That's exactly the kind of tool I was looking for. I will check it out. Also, regarding the adhesive, I wasn't planning on adhering the bricks at all. I have them all laid out right now and they work just fine to contain the burning wood. Once I chip off the lips on them it should be perfect.

After the first few answers I guess I'm leaning toward calling a roofer out to take a look at things. How much should I expect a roofer to charge to come out and take a look and tell me what I'm looking at? I'm leery of trying to address this myself - the roof seems like a pretty important part of the house. :-)

Why would there be any pipes up there? That may be a really stupid question, but I can't think of a reason. It is on the ceiling above the staircase on the highest floor of the house. Only the attic and the roof are above it.
